Our little banchan boy is growing so incredibly fast.
At his well-baby checkup, Ethan weighed in at 16lbs 1oz, and grew another inch at 27in long. He’s in the 97th percentile for his height, but his BMI is quite low because he’s so long…like a lanky hotdog! Our aim is to fatten him up in the next few weeks.
Doctor gave him the green light to start on solid food! And we’re sooo excited by that prospect! Food! We get to feed him real food!!! Mushroom risotto, arrozcaldo, roasted garlic chicken, macaroni & cheese, Texan-style brisket, chicken larb, sinigang, Steak Diane, red beans & rice, foie gras, roasted artichokes…omg the list goes on. CORRECTION: we get to feed him PURÉED food. So I’m asking Santa for the BEABA Babycook Neo…let’s see if he can Fedex it before Christmas. 🙂
It’s exciting to think that these first few introductions to food could formulate his dietary preferences. It’s like some kind of amazing science project + gastronomic experiment — we’re literally shaping his palette and influencing his tastes. If it were up to me, it would be Filipino food all day long. Sardines & rice, tuyo, adobo, tortang talong, bangus, tapsilog, chicken tinola, munggo, suka with everything, patis with everything. My ultimate dream would be getting Ethan to eat ampalaya and eggs off of my plate, not having to make a separate baby-friendly meal for him. Like. I’d consider that a parenting win!
Anyway, enough about food.
Ethan is really the sweetest baby. He’s happy, charming, and just a puddle of pleasantness. Speaking of puddles, there’s usually globs of saliva dribbling down his chin, soaking through his bib. If you place anything in his hands, he’ll grab it, then he’ll bite it. He’ll put it in his mouth. He’ll slobber all over it…slobber all over your hands…all over his hands…all over your clothes.
Our little eggroll has learned to roll. Not a full 360°, but he’s doing 180°s — from his back to his front. Once he’s on his belly, he props himself up on his elbows, and just looks around like a bored puppy dog. Rolling has become his new favorite hobby…he’ll do it at any chance he gets.
Pretty soon, he’ll be crawling.
Then it’s off to college.
