Bali Highlights 2017

by C. F. Luna

Sharing a few highlights from our epic trip to Bali. We are soooooooooooooo in love with this place…

Jordan and I started off at Kuta Beach, Bali — a tourist-heavy hot spot. The beaches were beautiful, with bars and clubs on every corner. EVERY CORNER! We took an hour drive inland to Gianyar province and Ubud, the more peaceful countryside.

We have fallen in love with Ubud. The Balinese are so friendly and good-natured, giving off positive energy at every encounter. We were able to witness a temple ceremony with our Airbnb host & his family, dressed in traditional kebayas and sarongs. There were countless beautifully-dressed temples at every corner. And the food…wow the foooood…Jordan and I have been floored by all of the island flavors! We absolutely loved this part of Bali.

Airbnb #3 was a beautiful Joglo (a traditional Javanese house) in the middle of the rice fields in Ubud. It was a 20-minute trek by foot through the fields to get into town everyday. There were no lights on the path except for fireflies and the occasional shop that left their lights on. We had a private tour through Suraswati Temple, got to see the Ubud Food Festival, and had so many more foodie moments along the way.

We visited Don Blanco Museum in Ubud, showcasing art by a Spanish artist who was fascinated with Balinesian women. Jordan made reservations at Blanco par Mandif, a twelve-seat restaurant with an amazing tasting menu. We had 7 courses; I was already full by the 3rd course. We then said goodbye to The Rice Joglo, hopped on a scooter to the main road in town, then hailed a taxi to drive us out to Seminyak, a beach resort town on the Southern end of Bali.

We got to enjoy a day party at Karma Kandara resort –> called GLOW Beach Party by the water. We stayed at Wahyu Villas in Seminyak, loved the room, the staff, and our private pool, where we did a little photo op.??Had an amazing stay at La Joya Bungalows near South Kuta. The views were spectacular and the sunsets were sublime. We visited Tanah Lot, the offshore pilgrimage temple. We finished our trip at Jimbaran Bay at an awesome sea-to-table restaurant, where we chose a freshly caught white & red snapper for our last meal. And now…I’m delirious and need to sleep.
