Fifty Shades Darker
I read Fifty Shades of Grey last month. And I just finished Fifty Shades Darker yesterday and I honestly enjoyed every minute of it.
I was wary at the beginning, but after the first 10 or so chapters of book 1, I began to appreciate the novel for what it was – erotica – and I gave in completely.
It’s easy to be cynical of the whole premise. [SPOILER] I mean, in what lifetime would any fresh-college-grad female happen upon a handsome, young, sex-hungry, billionaire business magnate who spoils her with new toys and a new wardrobe and a new car and fills her bank account with cash and mercilessly fucks her in boathouses and yachts and on pianos and countertops and is someone who is also concerned about world hunger and sustainability?
Hmmm…maybe it’s a white thing? 🙂 jk.
And yet somehow, I don’t identify with the main character at all – Ana Steele. But I sure do envy her. And that’s enough to keep my interest piqued. Even if Christian Grey is fifty shades of fucked up, the plot line is enough to keep the pages turning.
Whilst reading it, I found myself biting my lips more than usual…occasionally squirming in my chair…needing a glass or two of wine…feeling warm & tingly in special places…taking a break or two between chapters. It’s a great experience, I must admit.
If this is to be expected from erotica, I’m more than ready to read the last book – Fifty Shades Freed. Will I be hooked to this genre from now on? Well, let’s just say…I’m slowly crossing over to the dark side.
