My first thought for birthday festivities was…Vegas?! 2 months postpartum and I’m still trying to get turnt. Old habits die hard. But really, what am I trying to prove? That I’m a fun parent and haven’t lost my streak? That age isn’t slowing this old fogey down?
My new word for the year should be low key. Actually low-key MOM. I really mustn’t forget that last bit.
Speaking of low key, I got to spend my birthday in San Diego. 🙂 Jordan planned a quick getaway for both of us. We left Baby Ethan with grandma, and we were out the door before you could spell M-I-M-O-S-A.
We spent the night at Hotel Republic, a swanky boutique hotel with furniture that looked like it was stolen from Palm Springs. After some hot baby making 😉 we had drinks & charcuterie at the hotel lounge. We then headed over to Juniper & Ivy for more drinks & dinner.
This place was amazing. Steak tartare, duck sausage, prawns, and freaking dry-aged ribeye. The dessert was to die for –> a devil’s cake roll with a creamy white chocolate center, hazelnut brittle sprinkle, and hot chocolate ganache on top. Holy holy holy holy shit. I have NOT tasted anything so decadent in my life. If the night ended there, I would’ve been elated. After dinner, our initial plans were to head to Omnia, a club at the Gaslamp District. But the line was too damn long (if you know us, then you know we don’t like lines). We walked down a block or two and came across the Oxford Social Club. Only a few people in line. Good music. Not trashy or juvenile. After dancing for an hour or so to some hip hop, and having a few drinks, we called it a night and headed back to the hotel. After a total of 4 drinks each, had to tap out out like some old fogeys 😉 😉 😉 😉
On Sunday, we woke up bright and early for brunch at Herb & Eatery. Such a hip place with amazing food. We ordered a Thai Croissant (thai chicken sausage, fried egg, gruyere, cilantro, spicy aioli) and Hash & Eggs (with mushrooms, Humboldt Fog goat cheese, kale, crema + brown butter fried potatoes). We were thoroughly impressed. We highly recommend this spot if you’re ever in town.
It was a short & sweet weekend with much-needed quality time with the hubby.
