I just finished Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart on my Nook last night. [SPOILER ALERT] It’s a satire on love & romance set in future New York. It’s a whored-out-Facebook age where the norm is about ‘streaming’ your day, your every movement is being tracked by a GlobalTracing system, you’re rated openly on a fuckability factor…and your credit score is made public when you stroll past a CreditPole.
The main characters are lovable and real and the storyline is really quite thought provoking. Despite the shallowness of how humanity is portrayed, there’s lessons of resilience, inner beauty and of course, love.
