Jordan and I have been doing Tim Feriss’ Slow-Carb Diet for about half a month now and we’ve never felt better. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who’s looking to keep lean. I’ll let you know how we feel after a full month. 🙂
Here are the notes (excerpts) I took from The 4-Hour Body by Timothy Feriss:
5 Rules of the Slow-Carb Diet
- Avoid WHITE carbohydrates
Avoid any carbohydrate that is, or can be, white: rice (white or brown), pasta, tortillas, cereal, potatoes, fried food w breading, etc. Don’t eat white stuff unless you want to get fatter!
- Eat the same few meals over and over again
Eat as much of the following foods below, but keep it simple:
Egg whites with 1–2 whole eggs for flavor (or, if organic, 2–5 whole eggs, including yolks)
Chicken breast or thigh
Beef (preferably grass-fed)
Lentils (also called “dal” or “daal”)
Mixed vegetables (including broccoli, cauliflower, or any other cruciferous vegetables)
- Don’t drink calories.
You can drink as much water / unsweetened tea & coffee (no milk; cream is ok but less than 2 tbsp). Two glasses of red wine per day are fine.
Do NOT drink milk (including soy) soft drinks, fruit juice, white wine, beer or mixed drinks / liquor.
- Don’t eat fruit!
The only exceptions are tomatoes and avocadoes, and the latter should be eaten in moderation (only 1 cup per day). Keep away from fruit at least 6 days out of the week till your cheat day.
It’s the seventh day that allows you, if you so desire, to eat peach crepes and banana bread until you go into a coma.
- Take one day off per week. [MANDATORY CHEAT DAY]
Saturdays preferably. Candy, beer, fast food, piiiiizzzaaaaa, ice cream, etc…nothing is off limits. Dramatically spiking caloric intake in this way once per week increases fat-loss by ensuring that your metabolic rate (thyroid function and conversion of T4 to %3, etc) doesn’t downshift from extended caloric restriction.
That’s right: eating pure crap can help you lose fat. Welcome to Utopia. There are no limits or boundaries during this day of gluttonous enjoyment. There is no calorie counting on this day or any other. Start the diet at least five days before your cheat day.
